Mr. Gilles Genty (art historian, curator, and collector who has co-curated several international exhibitions on the Nabis and Post-Impressionists) provided the following information, "This drawing is preparatory to the figure of Eve, the left-hand part of the fireplace surround at Château de Launay, sculpted for Lucien Besnard by Georges Lacombe around 1910-1912. The model for this Eve is Botticelli's Venus, of which Georges Lacombe also made a drawing. The mantel has been dismantled and is now housed at the Musée du Petit Palais in Geneva."
